Wilmslow Funk Collective

The Wilmslow Funk Collective was founded in the leafy Cheshire town of Wilmslow in 2024, with a mission to exploit the very latest in technological developments, including A.I. tools, in order to craft a classic retro musical sound.

The group's music draws on a variety of influences, including 1960s soul, 1970s funk and disco, and modern R&B. With its disco rhythms, slap bass, choppy guitar riffs and funky horns providing a groovy backing, the group had found the vehicle to deliver a lyrical exploration of modern life.

A debut album was released in January 2025 titled First World Problems, featuring the singles Fifty Shades of Grape and The Next Episode, as well as a variety of other funky songs with a focus on First World Problems. The album covers such diverse subjects as having your electric toothbrush run out of charge halfway through brushing, having to wait in all day for a delivery, and being unable to find your TV remote because its just too small.

A second album followed in May 2025 titled Can I Speak To Your Manager?, featuring a single of the same name, and the surprisingly moving ballad Don't You Know Who I Am?. The album deals with an evergreen topic for online discussion, the unreasonable and inappropriate behaviour of entitled people, often referred to using the shorthand "Karen".

September 2025 will see the release of a third LP titled What The Funk (What The Actual Funk), featuring the singles ICYMI, NSFW (as a double-A side with 420 2NTE) and DKDC. As you may have guessed, the album's tracks all share their names with acronyms and abbreviated wording common to text-speak. If you don't know what they mean then ask your kids. From the true story of an out-of-control party in WTPA to the poor life choices and excesses of FOMO / YOLO the album features the hardest hitting funk from the group so far, shifting away from late-sixties soul influences, and firmly into the groove of 1970s funk.

On the back of the What The Funk (What The Actual Funk) album, follows an uncharacteristically political single RUOK asking the group's friends in the USA how they are doing right now.
